My fight with Target is over!

I love to shop at Target, but I got so mad last week that I decided to boycott Target. I registered there for my baby shower, and got quite a bit of stuff from there. All of it I love, but I got duplicates of a few things, and then some things you just only need so much of. I have about 25 0-3 mos onesies, and that doesn't count the 4 packages I planned on exchanging for bigger sizes. So I gathered all of the things I wanted to exchange and went to Target customer service. Unfortunately if I was given gift receipts, I no longer had them. I wasn't careful about saving them because I had no intention of returning the things I got, and because in the past, Target has had a fairly easy return policy. Apparently things have changed and they are quite strict about returns. Even things that were on my registry and it showed it was purchased could not be returned or exchanged. I left with the phone # to corporate office and intentions to call and complain. The next day I called, and the guy on the phone (who spoke with a foreign accent and I could barely understand him) asked for my name and number right away before helping me. I assumed this was in case we got disconnected he could ring me back. Oh No, because after he told me he could not help me, that the return policy was changed, he offered to transfer me to his supervisor. Well he put me on hold for 5 minutes first, then realized the connection didn't go through, tried again and disconnected our call. I waited thinking he would call me back, but he didn't. I was so frustrated that I swore I would never shop at Target again. My mom insisted I should keep calling until they get so sick of hearing from me they just give in, but I don't have as much persistence for justice that my mom does.

Then I found a sale item that I really wanted to buy for my niece in the Target ad for the black Friday shopping sales. I made an exception and went in and bought what I needed. I told my sister Rachael who was with me that it was a one time exception, but she said this was just the first of many exceptions I would likely make and I was only hurting myself by boycotting them.

Well tonight I went to the big mall in South Bend about 30 minutes away, and since there was a Target close by, I decided to try one more time to exchange a few items, thinking a different Target might not be as strict. Guess what? No problem, the items were returned for a store credit with no questions asked! What a difference. And the best part is now I don't have to boycott Target. I guess were both lucky!

Sadly, I think that a lot about your experience at "our" Target has to do with it's address and the high theft rate in that zip code. I'm glad that you were able to exchange at the other one.
I have had similar problems there (they don't price match either), and swore I would stop going there but I just CAN'T! I love it too much.
I know. I am pathetic.

target gave me a terrible time about returning my wedding registry stuff and they gave Sarah a terrible time too. I just put my foot down and would not leave until they looked up how much the item was purchased for and they gave me that amount.

I tried to do a return last week at Target and was equally frustrated so the item will be donated for the Xmas gift collection at work for the families our dept. "adopted". I don't shop there often and it will only be in desperation from now on. Their return policy is so consumer unfriendly.

Glad it worked out! With you boycotting Target and Todd boycotting Walmart, you guys would have had a tough time. Meijers?

I want to boycott our Walmart (even your mom has a story about our Walmart...) but that wouldn't leave me many (any?) other shopping options. I'm glad you got to exchange your stuff!

Amy, just to clarify "our" target zip code is not the same zip code we live in, just shop in. And yeah, I think it has to do with location too.

Natalie, I guess a lot has changed, because when I registered there for my wedding 2 years ago, I had no problems at all, even if it wasn't on my registry they gave me store credit.

Tina, I told them they were going to lose a lot of customers this way. People will get frustrated and go elsewhere. Unfortunately we live in a small town where Target and Old Navy are the only 2 decent stores to shop at without a long drive.

V- I already have to boycott walmart, Todd doesn't think they have good ethics and he refuses to shop there and prefers I don't either.

The only general discount store in our town is Walmart where I do regularly go. In fact, I have to stop on my way home from work. It's a drive to a Target so I rarely go there. We have lots of shopping in my town and the next town which is a mile or two away but they are all "cutesy" specialty shops.

I would be so bummed if my Target did that to me - it's my favorite non-grocery store. Glad you got over your fight with them!

Go back to the original Tarjay with your store credit, wave it in the air and dance around, singing "Nanny Nanny Boo Boo! Stick your head in Doo Doo!" You'll feel better intantly.

Plus, the dance may get those contractions started.

Any signs of labor? When it is getting close to the event, your blog readers are checking for further developments.

Just think that today and tomorrow are your last days of work until you return after maternity leave.
