Pretty is for girls

Lately I've had several strangers mistake Tony for a girl, despite his all boy, primarily blue wardrobe. They will say "she's so cute" and when I correct them, they always say it's the hair that threw them off. This past weekend at church a lady said to me, "Your little boy is so pretty, he looks like a girl." I'm sure she meant this is the most innocent and complimentary way possible, but I couldn't help but be a bit annoyed. My boy does not look like a girl.
I will admit he probably does need a haircut though. Or shall I say, did need a haircut. Today he got his first one. He was such a good little boy too, for the first 75% of the time, then he'd had enough, he was done being messed with. The hairstylist still managed to finish the job with both his ears still intact despite the near misses with the scissors.

Just getting started.
This mirror was what kept him entertained during the haircut.
Here he's telling her he's had enough.
But my hairstylist, Rachel is a pro, and pressed on despite his protest.
He really was a good boy.
Of course daddy had to come along for this momentous occasion.
Here is a before pictureAnd here is the after. Isn't he handsome. Of course we saved a locket of his hair and put it in a little ceramic box that says "the first haircut of the prince"

One week later

This is what we were doing when Anthony turned exactly 1 week old. A much more pleasant Friday evening I must say. While we napped, Todd was busy on the internet looking at college savings plans. I guess it's never to early to start thinking about that. Apparently if your child starts college at age 18 then you need to save $178 per month starting the first month he's born and that would cover 2/3 of his college education.
Last evening we went over to Rachael's house to let the kids see the baby again. I accidentally left my camera over there, so I wasn't able to post about the haircut. Yes, Todd finally got his hair cut. I told him we were getting professional pictures taken of Anthony and if he wanted a picture with the baby then he had to cut his hair. So daddy got a haircut and we also got a very cool family photo. I will post it when I get the proofs. We also got some very cute baby pictures.
Before
After (much better don't you think)

I took a couple days away from the blog to rest whenever I could, I'm starting to get so tired from being up so much at night. Although the swaddling blanket is working great for keeping him in his bassinet, he still wakes up every 2 hours and then it takes at least an hour to feed him and rock him back to sleep, sometimes longer. Usually the 4am wake up is the hardest to get him back asleep and I usually give up and bring him in bed with me. But every night gets a little bit easier, and every now and then he will sleep a good 3-4 hours straight through.

I've been reading on other peoples blogs that Christmas is approaching fast and most people have once again found themselves needing to hurry up and get their shopping done. I keep leaving comments along the lines of yeah, me too but it sort of hit me today that Christmas is only 11 days away. Guess how much of my shopping I've done???? I have about 3 gifts which I bought the day after thanksgiving, and so far that's it. I seriously need to get going! I think maybe I'll leave the shopping up to Todd this year. It would be interesting to see what he would pick out for everyone.

Other good news is that in the one week since Anthony was born I have lost 21 pounds! Now I really wish I'd done a better job of controlling my weight gain. If I'd only gained the ideal 25 pounds I'd be so close. Instead I still have 15 more to go. Yes I gained a whopping 36 pounds. Now if only I could lose another 20 pounds this next week.... I know that isn't going to happen, but wouldn't it be nice.

Decemeber 5, 2005

Here is a picture from our wedding 2 years ago in Montego Bay, Jamaica. I was trying to find a picture yesterday, but none of my pictures from the wedding are on my computer, and I don't have a scanner. I was reading Rachaels blog (for some reason I'm having 4am insomnia) and realized she had posted this picture on her blog. December 5th (2006) is also happens to be a special day for her as well, it's the first day she met her daughter Katya in the orphanage in St. Petersberg, Russia. By the way, Todd is already trying to retract his anniversary gift to me to cut his hair. Last night when I reminded him that he promised to cut it before the baby comes home from the hospital, he claimed he never said hospital. He just said before he comes home, meaning home from school one day! I am not letting him get away with this. Everyone else in the family (mine and his) must help me hold him to his promise.

Battle of hairstyles

Yesterday I got a much needed haircut, I can't believe it has been 5 months since my last one. When I saw my hairdresser she was so happy to hear that I hadn't changed hairdressers, she had begun to wonder since it had been so long. Although the truth is she would have to do a really bad job for me to switch, I get a cut and color and eyebrow wax for $35 or just a haircut for $15. I'd be a fool to go anywhere else. She doesn't give everyone that same deal, but I found her when she was new out of beauty school and I sent her a lot of people from work to help build her clientele so she gives me a good deal.
So when I went to see her yesterday I was thinking about doing something a bit different than the usual, so I decided to cut bangs. I brought in these two pictures and let my stylist pick which one would work best for me. She picked the one on the bottom of Ashley Olson.

I tried to take a self portrait to show you my version of Ashley Olson's hairdo, but my picture looks really blah next to glam celebrities. So you'll just have to wait and see me for yourself.
I like the bangs, they are a bit hard to get used to, I keep wanting to brush them off my face, but I'm glad I did it. Something different for a change.
Todd's response to my new haircut was that he doesn't really like bangs! Normally I would welcome his opinion on such things, but most of you know that we have had an ongoing battle over his current hairstyle. He has decided to let it grow, it has been 9 months since his last haircut and the time before that he waited over a year. It all started with a silly bet he made with his mother that she meant as a joke, but Todd was up for the challenge. I think the bet was something like $500 if he could go a year without cutting it.
So I told him that as soon as he cuts off the ponytail I will grow out my bangs. Unfortunately I don't think that is going to happen anytime soon. The last thing I heard on the subject of him cutting his hair was that as soon as Notre Dame goes to a bowl game he'll cut his hair. So folks it looks like its going to be a while. I'm hoping he's not serious, but I try to leave him alone about it, it seems the more people tell him to cut it the more stubborn he gets.
Here is a picture of his current hairstyle:

And here is a picture of what it used to look like. This is a picture from our honeymoon in Dominican Republic.

(Ahh, the good ol days when my stomach was somewhat flat, although I'm sure I probably thought I was fat at the time)
