Be careful what you ask for

For those of you that have blogs, do you ever get the feeling that someone (in his case my work) is reading your blog because you write about something and then you see a direct effect on what you wrote? Okay, so maybe your not following me, let me explain. Yesterday I complained about not getting any hours at work, and I even mentioned that I had gone back to hospital ER #2 after a year and a half, but only to work on med/surg which I didn't like*, but did it anyway just to get some hours. That was Monday. Then Tuesday I got called to go back again to work on med/surge, I turned them down, because it was only for 4 hours and it was snowing like crazy and it's a half hour drive without snowy icy roads, and well, lets just say, I'm not that desperate for work. Then today, I got called again to see if I wanted to work tonight in the same hospital, but this time I get to work ER. (I had to say yes, after all that complaining)
Well, I guess I can't complain about going to work, since I just complained about not getting to work, but you know how when you don't do something for a while, it's hard to get back into the habit of doing it again. That's kind of how I feel about work right now.
Friday my friend D'Arcy from WA is coming to visit for a few days, and then we leave for Florida, and so basically I wont work again until March 3rd, so really I need to go to work today. Why can't I just get a paycheck and stay home??

*The reason I don't like med/surg is because there is way too much paper work, last Monday when I worked there, I spent probably 2 hours providing patient care and the other 6 hours charting about it. Care plans, patient teaching, problem charting, narrative charting, assessment charting, 24 hour chart checks, vital signs, I/O's, % of meals eaten, hygiene care provided, meds given, and probably more, but seriously it's way too much!
There are other reasons I don't like med/surg but the paperwork is a major one.

I used to think people I knew were reading my other blog (the private one) because they would ask about things that I had just done a post about. But then I realized these same people don't even know what a blog is!

Would you rather work for on a "consulting" basis like you do or as a full time nurse for a hospital? I imagine both have their pluses and minuses.

I feel the same way about med-surge too and I am just a student.

Some people call that "the power of posting". It's a strange phenomenon....

Maybe it's Karma...
I think it is because you went down to say Hi to all the nurses you used to work with and "reminded" them that you are still available to work there. You know the old phrase, "Out of sight, out of mind"? You haven't been there for a long time, and they just needed to know you were still around. Maybe I should do that with hospital #2. Think they would call me more if I just kept showing up? ;)

First of all, I attempted to keep my blog a secret from those at work. It went from one, to a couple and now pretty much everyone knows about it.
I am not comfortable with that and now I'm finding that I feel inhibited in my writing (part of the reason I haven't been on for a while).
Second, I completely understand about getting used to NOT being able to work and then having shifts offered that you know you SHOULD work but don't want to. Conundrum.
And third, med surg sucks. I do technically work a 'med surg' floor but onc is different somehow. Not the paperwork so much but the patients, so it makes a positive difference in the way I feel about extra work and paperwork.

sorry for the novel. :/
